Heading to Montreal soon? How exciting! If you’re still planning your itinerary in Canada, you might be wondering how many days in Montreal you’ll need. We get it – there are many other nice places that should be on your itinerary.

Since it’s hard to answer this question – the quick answer would be 3 days. Although, it truly depends on the global length of stay in Canada. Visiting Canada in one week or in three months should give you a different answer.

In this post, we will see how you can plan your time in Montreal and more importantly, how can you make the most of it. You can then pick the right Montreal itinerary according to the number of days you’re planning on staying.

Before we start, I’d suggest you answer this – are you going to spend your holiday in more than one Canadian province? Or will you stick to the belle province? In case you have forgotten, Canada is a huge country…

If you’re only traveling in Quebec, you can stick to the first section, and you can skip to the itineraries. If you’re planning on traveling everywhere in Canada (lucky you), I’d suggest you read the whole thing.

Traveling in Quebec province only

If you’re planning on spending your holidays in Quebec province – you might have limited time in Canada. Within 7-10 days, you should be able to visit the major cities, such as Montreal, Quebec City, or why not add a bit of great outdoors with Tremblant.

If you have more time, I’d suggest going in the direction of Gaspesie – which would bring you closer to the sea. It’s going to be a long drive from Montreal, but you will truly experience the real French Canadian hospitality.

Traveling in Quebec & Ontario

If you’re planning on spending your holidays in Quebec and in Ontario, you might want to concentrate on the major cities, such as Montreal, Quebec City, Toronto and perhaps, Ottawa, which is the capital.

While you’re around Toronto, you could take a small detour to check out the famous Niagara Falls.

Traveling in Eastern Canada

Here, Eastern Canada refers to Ontario, Quebec, Newfoundland, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia.

If you need to prioritize, I’d recommend you to visit Toronto, Montreal, Gaspésie, Fredericton and Halifax. It could be a very long (and fun) road-trip. Or, you could skip some of the driving and fly directly to New Brunswick or Nova Scotia.

Traveling in Canada

If you’re traveling around Canada from one side to the other, I’d like to say a big thank you. It’s pretty rare that travelers will have time to travel around the country. But if you do, here’s what you should definitely put on your Canadian bucket list.

You could start in Toronto, Montreal, and then fly to Calgary.

From there, you could explore the best Canadian National Parks, including Jasper National Park and Banff National Park.

Then, you can drive towards Whistler and Vancouver. This itinerary should cover your Canadian essentials.
