Mont Tremblant

The best-known ski resort in Eastern Canada is Mont Tremblant, located in the Laurentian Mountains of Quebec. The mountain and its ski village have been heavily developed, offering 96 ski slopes, 47 of which are classified as “extreme” slopes.




The mountain also offers many beginner and intermediate slopes, as well as alternative options for those less interested in skiing, such as dogsledding, hiking, tubing, and ice climbing.

Alongside the popular mountain activities, the mountain village also features a shopping district, lodging, various restaurants, an indoor pool, and stargazing. It takes around an hour and a half to drive to Mont Tremblant from Montreal.

There is also a coach available, L’Express du Nord, which offers transportation to and from Mont Tremblant and Montreal every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Day passes for Tremblant start at $99 for adults, with multi-day and season passes also available.

Perhaps not the top choice for more advanced skiers, Tremblant is perfect for beginner and intermediate skiers and is the perfect tourist spot for those wondering where to ski around Montreal and wanting to experience a picture-perfect snow scene. 

Bromont

Bromont is a popular mountain for nighttime skiing, as it features the largest lit terrain and is open until 10pm Sunday-Thursday and 10.30pm on Fridays and Saturdays. The Bromont ski resort reaches 516 meters above sea level, located on the slopes of Mont Brome, Mont Spruce, and Pic du Chevreuil.

Alongside its 142 trails, Bromont also offers 6 snow parks for snowboarding and freestyle skiing. Perfect ski weather is guaranteed at Bromont, with over 1275 snow guns invested in to provide continuous skiing conditions day and night.

The ski resort is designed for both advanced and beginner skiers, also offering mountain activities including hiking, trail running, mountain biking, and cross-country. Bromont is around an hour’s drive from Montreal, and Express Tours run day trip coaches from Montreal to Bromont every Saturday between January 4th and March 28th from $69.99. A day pass at Bromont starts at $72 per person, and reduced rates are available for presale tickets.

Whiteface

Home of the 1980 Winter Olympics, Whiteface is one of the High Peaks of the Adirondack Mountains in New York. Though across the border, Whiteface resort is a popular choice for skiing near Montreal and takes around two hours to reach by car.

The altitude of Whiteface reaches 1483 meters and features 90 trails, with its longest stretching 2.1 miles. The Whiteface resort also makes use of 335 snow guns to ensure 99% snowmaking coverage, so conditions will be perfect regardless of the time of your trip.

Alongside world-class skiing, Whiteface resort also offers bobsledding, snowshoeing, gondola rides, and cross-country skiing, not to mention the various activities surrounding the mountain’s Olympic history.

When it’s time to take a break, Whiteface resort features various on-site restaurants, offering waffles, burgers, poutine, and more. Throughout the Whiteface/Lake Placid area, there are numerous lodging options, including the Hampton Inn and the High Peaks Resort, with a complimentary shuttle service running between Lake Placid and Whiteface that makes regular stops along the way.

Located in New York State, Whiteface is a two-hour drive from Montreal, with day tickets costing from $78 during the early season and $104 during peak season. It is also possible to reach Whiteface via Amtrak, operating between Montreal and New York City with a stop in Westport, N.Y (40 miles from Lake Placid). A shuttle bus service to Lake Placid from Westport can be arranged. 

Mont Blanc

Located in the Laurentians, not far from Mont Tremblant, Mont Blanc features 43 ski trails, some of which are double diamond expert runs. Located in the ski resort Valley of Saint-Saveur, Mont Saint-Saveur is another popular resort for night-time skiing, offering 40 trails ranging from beginner to expert, over half of which are lit. Activities also available at the summit include an alpine roller coaster, zipline, freestyle park, bike park, mini-golf, and a water park.

Nearby, 120 campgrounds and 20 small cottages are available for reservation, with options for additional service. General services for accommodation include a small convenience store, camp firewood, showers, a laundry room, and disabled access.

Nearby is the Valley village, featuring hotels and lodges for visitors to the mountain, including Manor Saint-Sauveur and Mont Gabriel Hotel & Spa. Within the village, you will also find Georges-Filion Park, specialty shops, restaurants and cafes, and art galleries. Around an hour away from Montreal, tickets for the summit start at $56.99 per person per day, with reduced rates for evening skiing and online purchase.

Mont Sutton

Mont Sutton is one of the best-known ski resorts near Montreal for glade skiing, with 45% of its skiable terrain covered by glades, and are often quoted as the best glades in Canada by ski magazines. Also available at the resort is a freestyle snow park and family zone. Mont Sutton also offers free guided ski tours twice a day, which allows skiers to discover and explore new trails on the mountain with the help of a guide.

At Mount Sutton, visitors can also find 4 chalets with restaurants, a daycare centre, and the Bar le Tucker. Lodging options are available nearby in the village of Sutton, including inns, B&Bs, condos, chalets, and youth hostels.

Mont Sutton also offers “Ski and Stay” all-inclusive packages on weekdays, which includes lodging, breakfast, and a day and a half skiing on the mountain. Mont Sutton is around an hour and a half away from Montreal, with day tickets costing $72 per adult.
